Transportation in Spain

Taxi services, buses, and railroads are the three major modes of transportation in Spain. Having your own car in Spain is optional. Most of the shops and stores within a city are accessible by walking. If you opt to go around through public transportations, it will help you save from the maintenance costs. A one-way ticket in local transport usually costs €1 to €2 ($1.18 to $2.36) subject to the travel distance. You can also purchase bus or metro travel passes good for a month or a 10-day travel ticket at a discounted price. It is ideal for people who commute to work or even to tourists who plan on staying longer. Spain's program for people who are over 60 years old is called golden card or retiree fare that gives the cardholder an estimated 25–30% discounts even on a long-distance journey. It costs around €6 ($7.07) and the effectiveness depends on what time of the day it is and the type of transportation used.
