Hungary
Hungary is located in Central Europe, between the mountains of the Carpathian Basin. With an area of 93 030 km², Hungary is a small but diverse and beautiful country. With a population of nearly 10 million, the country is divided into 19 counties as regional administrative units. Although it is a geographically diverse country, it is largely made up of plains, hills and freshwater lakes - for example Lake Balaton, which is Central Europe’s greatest lake and a worldwide famous holiday destination. Nearly a quarter of the country is covered by forest and its fauna is one of the most heterogeneous in Europe. It is surrounded by Slovakia to the north, Ukraine and Romania to the east, Croatia and Serbia to the south, and Austria to the west.
Beyond its natural wonders, Hungary is also an exceptional country with a rich history and cultural heritage. Many scientific discoveries and technical innovations can be attributed to the country, which, as a small country, is still an active contributor to the international scientific community. From literature to fine arts and gastronomy, Hungary's intellectual heritage has contributed much to European cultural life. The country has several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Hortobágy National Park, the Tokaj wine region and Budapest's Danube-front view.

Budapest
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and by far its largest city with nearly 2 million inhabitants. The city has a history going back 2 millennia. Budapest is the country's centre of science and innovation, home to a number of prestigious universities and research centres, as well as internationally respected companies. Budapest is a very special place with stunning architecture and cultural life, which will be an excellent home for the next International Youth Conference on Energy.
