Applying
To apply for a scholarship you must complete an online application form. You can complete an application round by opening the link on the right-hand of this page.
There are three application rounds to ensure you have the greatest opportunity to apply - and reapply if you are unsuccessful. You must submit your application on or before the application round closing date.
Due to demand of the Te Huarau scholarship, there is an expectation that by the third application round it will only be open to applicants with mid-year enrolments starting their first year of study.
You can apply for multiple scholarships, but can only be granted one. Part-time options are available.
We appreciate that completing the application form can be a challenging task. We have a team on hand and more information across our websiteand in our scholarship guide, to make sure you hand in the strongest application you can.
The programme is inclusive and rewards outstanding applicants. Outstanding to TeachNZ goes beyond academic achievement. The programme recognises passion, leadership, good communication, lived experiences and also places value on Māori and Pacific cultural competencies and language skills.
The assessment panel evaluate each application against a number of criteria. They reflect on how applicants express their relationship and engagement skills, communication skills, leadership, motivations to teach and cultural capabilities. As well as judging an application on these merits, the assessment panel consider how an application aligns with the aims of the scholarship programme.

If your application is successful, we will email you a scholarship offer email with an agreement setting out the terms and conditions of the scholarship. Example terms and conditions for the Te Huarau are available to download on this page. You can also find more information about accepting a scholarship in the scholarship guide and here.
