What is One Young World?

One Young World was founded in 2009 by David Jones and Kate Robertson. We are a UK-based charity that gathers together the brightest young leaders from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections to create positive change.

We stage an annual Summit where the most valuable young talent from global and national companies, NGOs, universities and other forward-thinking organisations are joined by world leaders, acting as the One Young World Counsellors.

Delegates participate in four transformative days of speeches, panels, networking and workshops. All delegates have the opportunity to apply to give keynote speeches, sharing a platform with world leaders with the world’s media in attendance. As well as listening to keynote speakers, delegates have the opportunity to challenge world leaders, interact and be mentored by influencers. Delegates make lasting connections throughout the Summit, celebrating their participation at social events and the unforgettable Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

After each Summit, the delegates, who are then known as One Young World Ambassadors, work on their own initiatives or lend the power of the One Young World network to those initiatives already in existence. Of those in employment, many returns to their companies and set about creating change from within, energising their corporate environment.

About the Scholarship

AI is transforming every aspect of our lives and society. It is young people who are at the forefront of developing innovative AI programmes and initiatives that are tackling the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges. AI is increasingly becoming used as a central tool in tackling the climate emergency. From quantifying heat-loss in homes, to mapping methane emissions and monitoring natural resources, it is revolutionising the way we preserve our environment and its ecosystems [1]. Advancements in AI are also being deployed to tackle social harm and inequity. Using AI algorithms within healthcare systems is enabling the quick and cost-efficient diagnosis of traditionally underserved patients, and AI programmes are being deployed to detect and eliminate online hate.

Yet, as we know, AI’s expansion is not without environmental and societal risks. With AI-related infrastructure linked to greenhouse gas emissions and e-waste, and AI misused to spread misinformation and image-based abuse [2], young leaders are working to ensure that AI is used to tackle social and environmental issues, rather than exacerbate them.

Following the success of last year’s collaboration, The Brandtech Group is teaming up with One Young World again to offer the AI for Good Scholarship 2025. The scholarship will shine a light on five incredible young leaders who are promoting the socially and environmentally sustainable and responsible use of AI.

Selected scholars will be leading initiatives that are aligned with one or more of four pillars of action, namely:

  • Utilising AI as a tool to actively tackle social harm, and promote social equity and wellbeing.
  • Utilising AI as a tool to promote sustainability and tackle climate change.
  • Reducing the negative social impacts caused by the misuse of AI.
  • Reducing the negative environmental impacts associated with AI.
