The Academy of European Law (AEL) holds two summer courses each year on The Law of the European Union and on Human Rights. The 2025 course on The Law of the European Union will be held both in presence and online on 16 - 27 June 2025.

Details

The topic of the General Course for 2025 will be European Data Law.  Professor Thomas Streinz will reflect on the rapid growth and development in recent years of EU data regulation well beyond data protection, with implications in an era of global digitalization not just for the EU and its member states but also beyond.

The theme of the Specialized Courses, which will be given by a group of leading experts in the area, will be the Challenges of European Refugee and Asylum Law and Policy. Amongst the issues to be examined will be the impact of colonialism, the challenges of the new Migration Pact, recognition practices, as well as broader reflections on the institutional and governance challenges of EU refugee and asylum policy.

The lecturers will include Professors Cathryn Costello, Andrew Geddes, Iris Goldner Lang, Violeta Moreno-Lax, Joyce De Coninck and Janine Silga. Complementing the General and Specialized Courses, there will be two Distinguished Lectures this year given by experts in the fields of EU governance including AFSJ and digitalization, namely Professors Deirdre Curtin and Katerina Linos.
