Overview
The year was 2004 and a handful of well-travelled people sat around a table and discussed their mutual desire to do something great. This desire grew into a plan, and that night African Impact was born from the passion and dedication of a few to become the pride and joy of many. When we opened our doors to our first batch of international volunteers we were a small, family-run organisation with big dreams. Those dreams have seen us grow into a trusted and established facilitator of great volunteering experiences in Africa. We're proud to offer fun, safe and structured placements where volunteers understand their contribution to responsible projects run in partnership with local communities and conservation efforts.

Community Volunteering
Africa is full of diverse and beautiful people. Unfortunately, as a result of poverty, many of these people live in appalling conditions and face daily challenges.
African Impact seeks to alleviate some of these challenges by implementing and supporting community volunteer projects throughout Africa. These projects are run with the help of committed volunteers and are ideal for those wishing to spend some time travelling abroad. Volunteers will be placed in local communities and spend time working directly with the people and culture of the area.
Whether you’d prefer to teach English, coach a sports team or work alongside healthcare professionals, as a community volunteer in Africa, the opportunities to change lives are endless.
Conservation Volunteering
The abundance and variety of wildlife on display across the African continent is truly spectacular. Unfortunately this asset is under severe threat, as human populations explode and the struggle for land intensifies.
As the great Nelson Mandela once said: "Ultimately conservation is about people. If you don’t have sustainable development around these (wildlife) parks, then the people will have no interest in them, and the parks will not survive”
African Impact aims to turn this trend around as it initiates and supports volunteer conservation projects across Africa. These projects are built around the conservation and protection of Africa’s wildlife through voluntary work and education. The conservation projects are ideal for anyone who is excited at the prospect of living and working amongst Africa’s wildlife.
As a conservation volunteer, you could find yourself monitoring rhino populations, volunteering on cheetah and lion rehabilitation projects, combating poaching or witnessing the predatory behaviour of Great White Sharks – Our conservation projects are as diverse as the African continent itself.
Internships
Exposure to all that the African continent holds, is potentially life changing. The lessons and experiences on offer are unlike any on earth and African Impact hopes to bring you a taste of this through our longer-term internship programs.
Spend your gap year in Africa being mentored by industry professionals and building your resume. The aim of these longer-term internships is to help you develop new skills, gain valuable work experience and give something back to the communities and programs that you come across.
Our internship programs are an ideal opportunity to work and travel abroad and learn about new cultures and traditions. As an intern, you will be exposed to some incredible people and places. Whether you’d prefer to work from an office or out in the field, you’re bound to grow on a personal level. Join an internship program and be inspired, refreshed and forever changed by all that you see and do on this beautiful continent.
