The scholarship program of AAI Graz is aimed at students from countries in the Global South who are studying at universities and universities of applied sciences in Styria. It is intended as a contribution to peaceful coexistence with people from different regions of origin by promoting equal opportunities, dialogue, intercultural knowledge, and partnership.
Details
The scholarship program supports capacity development in countries of the Global South and promotes the development of local professional and innovation potential. By supporting students from these countries, the program aims to train future experts and professionals who are willing and able to actively contribute to addressing development policy challenges in their home countries.
It encourages independent, creative, critical, and self-determined thinking and action, and enhances the competence for innovative problem-solving.
The scholarship program contributes to the socially necessary production of knowledge and understanding, promotes a global perspective, and helps create globally educated citizens. It places great importance on regional, international, and transcultural networking.
The program is co-financed (public, church, and private funds) and makes an important contribution to the economic, social, and cultural development of countries in the Global South.
The types of scholarships are divided into:
- Scholarships for students in diploma/master's programs (application in Austria)
- Scholarships for students in doctoral programs (application in Austria)
Through accompanying measures such as workshops and seminars on return and reintegration, career prospects, and applications, as well as advisory sessions, the project goal of successful professional reintegration in the home country is significantly strengthened.

The scholarship program is aimed at students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America who are interested in development policy and have come to Austria on their own initiative to pursue their education. By taking the step to study abroad, these students have demonstrated a high level of determination, creativity, and mobility.
