Amateur Photographer magazine invites amateur photographers from around the world to enter its annual competition for the chance to win monthly prizes, exposure in the magazine, and the title of ‘Amateur Photographer of the Year 2024’, which for the third year is brought to you in partnership with our sponsor, MPB.

Round 7 open: MACRO
It’s easy to understand why people become obsessive about macro photography. It requires a balance of both technical and creative ability, while providing an insight into the world that is often impossible to appreciate with the naked eye. Patience and understanding of your subject – and ethics, if you are photographing a living creature – are also crucial. If you choose to photograph plants or flowers, we want to see pristine examples (unless their flaws are intrinsic to the composition), and if you photograph animals or insects, then take the time to study and understand their behaviour, so you don’t cause them distress. And don’t feel you have to restrict yourself to plants or living creatures, either. We also want to see abstract landscapes and impressionistic still lifes in the entries to this category. Anything goes, as long as it’s taken in close-up.

More than £17,500 worth of prizes up for grabs
Be in with the chance of winning the title of Amateur Photographer of the Year 2024 and other fantastic prizes courtesy of our sponsors Adobe, Camera Centre UK and ViewSonic.
Our grand prize winner will take home a £1,000 voucher for the Camera Centre UK, and round winners will also get over £1,000 of prizing, including a £500 Camera Centre UK voucher and an ‘All Apps’ Adobe subscription worth £660.
The top ten entries from every round will also be published in Amateur Photographer magazine.
The Young APOY grand prize winner will receive a £500 Camera Centre UK voucher, and round winners will win an Adobe Photography subscription worth £120.
This year’s Camera Club prize is better than ever, with £2,500 of ViewSonic prizing to the winning club, comprising a 4k ViewSonic projector worth £1,500, and a ViewSonic monitor worth £1,000 to the club member who contributed the most points to their club’s final points tally.
