Overview
AICGS offers unpaid internships to undergraduate and graduate students in the spring, summer, and fall. AICGS internships provide a professional and educational experience in a not-for-profit think tank that works to build a smarter German-American partnership.
Details
AICGS internships aim to:
- Introduce interns to all aspects (administrative, programming, development, research) of an American nonprofit public policy institute
- Provide opportunities for interns to carry out their own research projects and publish work on the Institute’s website
- Involve interns in ongoing AICGS projects and events of the three program areas: Business & Economics, Foreign & Domestic Policy, and Society, Culture & Politics
- Provide opportunities for participation in similar events in Washington, DC, organized by other policy institutions or think tanks.
AICGS offers two internship positions (Research Internship and Development Internship). Please specify which position you are applying for in your application.
Research Internship
Research Interns are given significant freedom to explore their own research interests and publish their work on the AICGS website. This position primarily works with the Research Associate.
All Research Interns will be involved in the following tasks:
- Support staff and fellows with their research projects and initiatives
- Provide event support (including contacting participants, event set-up/take-down, event registration and follow-up, and publications mailings)
- Taking notes and writing summaries at AICGS events for the AICGS website and electronic newsletter
- Daily English and German language newspaper survey
Development Internship
Development Interns learn how a nonprofit functions as a business entity and become acquainted with the logistics of organizing the Institute’s annual fundraising dinner, the Global Leadership Award Dinner (GLAD). This position primarily works with the Finance and Development Associate.
All Development Interns will be involved in the following tasks:
- Researching and identifying potential partnerships between the Institute and private firms
- Managing contact database
- Researching changes in German-American business relationships
- Providing event support for GLAD
- Administrative and financial project support
Interns will be evaluated at the mid-point and at the end of their internship and will be asked to provide AICGS with an evaluation of the internship program and their experience at AICGS.

- Summer 2025: June-August, deadline April 11, 2025
