Overview

Amgen Scholars is hosted at five premier educational institutions throughout Europe. Each host institution has its own application process. Enrollment at a European institution is required, and you can apply to participate at as many host institutions as you are interested in.

Details

Every year, the Amgen Scholars Europe Programme provides 75 selected undergraduate students throughout Europe with the opportunity to engage in a hands-on research experience at many of Europe’s premier educational institutions. Currently, five institutions in Europe host the summer research programme. The Amgen Foundation has committed $74 million over sixteen years to this global initiative to make the opportunity possible for thousands of students.

What is the purpose of the Amgen Scholars Program?

The Amgen Scholars Program provides hundreds of selected undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in a hands-on research experience at many of the world’s leading educational institutions. The Program seeks to increase learning and networking opportunities for students committed to pursuing science or engineering careers and to spark the interest and broaden the perspective of students considering scientific careers. Ultimately, the Program aims to increase the number of students pursuing advanced training and careers in the sciences.

Inspiring the Scientists of Tomorrow

As Amgen Scholars, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Take part in important university research projects, gain hands-on lab experience, and contribute to the advancement of science;
  • Interact with and receive guidance from faculty mentors, including some of Europe’s top academic scientists; and
  • Participate in engaging scientific seminars, workshops, and other networking events.

Europe Symposium

A signature component of the summer programme is the symposium where students hear firsthand from leading scientists working in industry and academia. Over the course of the symposium, Scholars have the chance to share their summer research projects with their peers and deepen their understanding of drug discovery and development.

Amgen Scholars in the Europe Programme participate in this symposium at the University of Cambridge.
