Overview
The Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA), founded in France in 1978, is a nonprofit organisation that promotes research in Mathematics in developing countries. Located in Nice, it is a UNESCO Category 2 centre and is part of the Laboratoire d'Excellence CARMIN (Centres d'Accueil et de Rencontres Mathématiques Internationales). It benefits from the financial support of France, Norway, Spain and Switzerland. "CIMPA Schools" is the historical activity of CIMPA, it focuses on areas where there is a real drive to develop mathematics and where there is a scope for a research project. Calls for proposals are launched every year to organise about twenty CIMPA Schools per year.

Historically, CIMPA's activity concerns the organisation of CIMPA Schools in developing countries. It focuses on areas where there is real enthusiasm and where there is a scope for research project. the purpose of CIMPA School is to provide an introduction to recent research in pure and applied Mathematics, as well as related subjects such as Computer Sciences and Theoretical Physics. Call for proposals are launched every year, with a view to organising twenty or so CIMPA Schools the following year.
To date, CIMPA has organised 340 CIMPA Schools in 62 Countries.
Participate in a CIMPA School
All persons, except the lecturers, wishing to attend a CIMPA School are requested to register on the local website of the school. People who require support to cover all or part of their costs of participation (travel and/or living expenses) can apply for a financial support from CIMPA on the web page.
Only the students and research teaching staff of an institution located in a developing country different from the country of the school are eligible to a financial support from CIMPA. Applications must be submitted before the deadline which is given on the CIMPA webpage of the school. Applications shall include a cover letter and two recommendation letters that will be sent electronically by the referees. Candidates are advised to complete their applications early enough and to ask the referees to send the letters long before the deadline. CIMPA will not assume responsibility for any last-minute application which cannot be completed due to technical reasons.
