250 students will have the exclusive opportunity to have their portfolio reviewed by inspirational industry leaders and receive advice on how to advance their careers. Submit your portfolio now for a chance to take your first step into the pro world. Advance your career and take the next step to becoming a pro photographer with the Canon Student Development Programme (CSDP).

This is an incredible opportunity to meet leading industry experts, attend key industry events, have your portfolio professionally assessed and learn valuable skills. 

Stages

  • Stage One: 1-2-1 Mentorships
    • Students will receive three sessions from June to July with a professional mentor, who will offer support in refining their portfolio.
  • Stage 2 Workshop
    • 30 students invited to Canon’s 5-day workshop in a beautiful Catalan farmhouse in Costa Brava, Spain - concluding with a final night stay at the Visa pour l’image photo festival in Perpignan, France.
  • Workshop activities
    • Students join Canon Ambassador-hosted practical sessions, Group Portfolio discussions and talks by top photographers and editors
  • Final stage: Hamburg
    • 5 students will be granted an exclusive place at the second edition of the Hamburg Portfolio Review from 16 to 18 September.
  • Bespoke experience
    • Students will showcase their work in portfolio reviews, be featured in an exhibition and have meetings with international picture editors.
  • Grant, gear & guidance
    • The final 5 receive a 6-month mentorship, up to €9K worth of Canon kit & a €2K grant, helping them take the next step to turning pro.

ORGANISER AND SUBMISSION PLATFORM ADMINISTRATOR

1.  The Organiser is Canon Europa N.V. 59 Bovenkerkerweg, 1185 XB (“Organiser”) Any company, any subsidiary, partnership or other entity which from time to time is controlled by or is under common control of the Organiser hereinafter will be referred to as “Organiser Affiliate” and, Organiser and Organiser Affiliate together will be referred to as "Organiser Group".
2.  The Data processor, as administrator of the submission platform is Hypemarks, Inc. dba TINT incorporated,122 EastHouston St. San Antonio, TX 78258.

By entering this Canon Student Development Programme Competition (“Competition”) all Entrants are deemed to have agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions unless notified otherwise by the Organiser in writing.

Candidates should be from:


Description of Ideal Candidate

All entrants (“Entrants”) must:

  • To enter, you must be at least 18 on 7th March 2025 and either a student, intern, or have completed your course in the 2024-25 academic year.;
  • reside in the countries listed below and:
    1. have started or completed an education programme in the countries listed below during the academic year 2024-25, or
    2. be engaged in internships by agencies or magazines within the same period; or
    3. be nominated/endorsed by professionals from the photographic industry.

Cost/funding for participants

PRIZE

The Programme will comprise three separate modules:

MODULE 1: 22ND APRIL - 31ST MAY

  • Mentoring: Up to 100 students will receive three online sessions with a professional mentor who will offer tailored insights and guidance on refining their portfolio and future project proposal.

MODULE 2: 31ST AUGUST – 4TH SEPTEMBER 2024

  • Workshop: 25 students will be invited to a prestigious 4-day workshop in Girona, Spain. Students take part in hosted practical sessions, portfolio reviews and talks by top photographers, videographers and editors.

VISA

  • Visa pour l’Image: After the workshop students will have the chance to visit Visa pour l’Image, the international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France, and participate in hosted exhibition tours.

LONG-TERM SUPPORT

  • Grants and Gear: The final 3 will receive a €2k grant and Canon kit to produce their proposed project.
