Communications & Storytelling Internship

TextileLab Amsterdam is a creative research lab for innovation in textiles, materials, and fashion through heritage, craftsmanship, technology, digital fabrication, and biology. We believe in collaboration, transparency, process, collective intelligence, and knowledge sharing to push the boundaries of the textile and clothing industry.

Are you curious about innovation in materials and textiles? Do you like to connect the dots, bringing people and initiatives together? Do you have experience with posting on social media and communicating research outcomes to a wide audience? Do you enjoy capturing, storytelling and communicating about creative innovation?

We are looking for a new intern to support the research and communications of TextileLab’s projects. You will help us to realise more impact and share outcomes and activities throughout our different channels. While you work with us, we will provide you the support to develop your own creative side project(s).

At Waag’s TextileLab, we research sustainable forms and value chains around bio-based-compostable colours - from pigments to dyes, from plant to bacterial. We believe in working in sync with nature, fostering connections and uncovering the local ecosystems that build up a strong community of practice.

For this to emerge and be captured - we are searching for a communications and storytelling intern position. Apply today to join us!

What are you going to do?

  • You will communicate project outcomes via our social channels and newsletter
  • You will create new narratives, video/photo content and other outputs. For instance making short reels of experiments in the lab or nice photos of the flowers in our garden.
  • You will assist with taking care of the garden and capturing how it changes over time
  • You will assist with events, meet-ups and workshops
  • You will prepare the content for the communications
  • You will spend one day a week on your own project (applying with a concept is a plus) and share the process and outcomes through open-source documentation
  • You will provide assistance with daily lab maintenance and preparation, to keep the lab clean and cosy by the end of each day
  • You will work closely with the TextileLab team and other interns working at Waag.
  • Contribute to a fun, safe, collaborative and pleasant work environment.
