Overview

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the project team for reduced greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions is working on operational and technical solutions to reduce the climate impact of aviation. Work is done on reduction of fuel burn and herewith the directly related CO2 and NOx emissions, as well as the indirect non-CO2 like contrails. The team of engineers is developing new systems together with air traffic controllers and flow managers.

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINEESHIP

MAIN LEARNING OBJECTIVES & TASKS

Concretely, this is what you will be doing:

  • Computer Vision: Enhance the detection and prediction of contrails, with new camera systems.
  • Data Science: Enhance the ML for detections of contrails, and correlate with other sensors from Met-offices and radars, to elaborate the quality of different weather providers.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor’s programme in a relevant domain (Engineering, IT, or Data Sciences);
  • Python, or JavaScript;
  • Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment;
  • Professional conduct in line with the corporate behaviours of the Agency, i.e. result-driven, readiness to change, customer focus, integrity and team-player approach;
  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, thorough knowledge of English is required.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • You are a national of one of the EUROCONTROL or ECAC Member States;
  • You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree, and you are about to graduate or have recently graduated. If you are a recent graduate, the traineeship should start within 12 months of obtaining your latest degree;
  • You must be at least 18 years of age on the first day of your traineeship;
  • You must be unemployed at the start date of your traineeship at EUROCONTROL;
  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For a traineeship, you must have an excellent command of English. A knowledge of French would be an asset.
