Overview

The Economist Service (ES) offers internships to students under the Economist Service Research Assistant Programme. As an intern, you will assist ES officers in MTI and other government agencies in research, by providing independent views and conducting quantitative analyses to inform public policy. The programme allows you to expand your professional network, participate in applied research work as well as consider the ES or the Civil Service as a future career choice.

Details

You should submit the following documents:

  • A completed Basic Information Form
  • Most recent curriculum vitae (CV)
  • An academic transcript if the CV does not include a description of academic courses taken and grades obtained
  • A writing sample
    • If you are a pre-university applicant, please submit a 800-word response to the question: Should we auction foreign worker permits, much like how we auction Certificates of Entitlement (COEs)?
    • If you are an undergraduate/post-graduate applicant, please submit 1-2 examples of your written work or papers on an economics-related topic (optional).

Interns will assist ES officers in MTI and other government agencies in research, typically an empirical econometrics study. The research questions will generally be set by the supervisor, but we are open to suggestions that interns may have. At the end of the internship, interns will usually write a paper and present the findings to interested parties.

Our university interns come from both local and foreign universities.
