Overview

The SatCen is offering one (1) traineeship position for university graduates that have recently obtained a university degree in Economics or Business Management, or equivalent, to reinforce its Finance Unit team.

Details

As a trainee, you will be given the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working for an EU body and the opportunity to participate in real-world procedures related to budgetary, financial and accounting activities.

Depending on the selected trainee’s skills set, the daily activities/tasks may include a combination of the following:

  • Supporting your team with the checking and introduction of invoices in the Financial Software.
  • Supporting your team with the organization and attachment of documentation to the Authorization of Payments in the Financial Software.
  • Updating the Vendors database in the Financial Software.
  • Supporting your team with the encoding of Member States ‘contributions to SatCen´s General and Pension Budgets in the Financial Software.
  • Assisting the team with the drafting of acknowledgement receipts addressed to Member States.
  • Assisting the team with gathering the VAT quarterly claim supporting documents.
  • Assisting the team with the preparation of relevant documentation for audits.
  • Updating and maintaining SatCen´s Finance Unit general files. 
  • Checking the consistency among the several rules on the Implementation Manual of Financial Rules.
  • Assisting your Head of Unit and the Finance team in the different daily tasks.

About us

The European Union Satellite Centre was founded in 1992 as a Western European Union body and incorporated as an agency into the European Union on 1 January 2002.

The staff of the Centre, headed by Director Amb Sorin Ducaru, consists of experienced imagery analysts, geospatial specialists and supporting personnel, recruited from EU Member States. The Centre also hosts seconded experts from Member States and Third States. SatCen assures technical development activities in direct support to its operational activities, as well as specialised training for its imagery analysts and external participants from Member States, Third States, international organisations and other EU bodies.

The Centre is located in Torrejón de Ardoz, in the vicinity of Madrid, Spain.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applications will be assessed based on the information provided by the candidates in the Application Form, and their performance against the following criteria:

  • Essential:
    • Completed university studies in Economics or Business Management, or equivalent, attested by a diploma.
  • Desirable:
    • Previous internship or traineeship experience(s) in European Union Institutions, Bodies, Offices and Agencies.
    • Awareness of classified working environment procedures.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

  • Essential:
    • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
    • Thorough knowledge of English (at least level B2 ), the working language of SatCen, and satisfactory knowledge of another official language of the EU to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.
    • Flexibility to cover a wide range of tasks, while maintaining attention to detail.
    • Capacity to work in autonomy and to self-learn on new topics.
    • Motivation to perform general financial and administrative duties.
    • Team player attitude; good cooperation and interpersonal skills.
    • High sense of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Desirable:
    • Knowledge of SatCen´s financial software (Microsoft Dynamics AX) would be an asset.
    • Knowledge of the financial procedures of the EU institutions and/or Other International Organisations. All essential and desirable criteria are evaluated so as to identify the most suitable candidates.

ELEGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be considered eligible, candidates must satisfy all of the following eligibility criteria by the closing date for submitting applications:

  • Have recently obtained a university degree in Economics or Business Management, or equivalent, attested by a diploma.
  • Be a national of one of the Member States of the Union and enjoy their full rights as citizen.
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the laws concerning military service.
  • Produce evidence of a thorough knowledge of English (at least level B2 ), the working language of SatCen, and of a satisfactory knowledge of another official language of the EU to the extent necessary for the performance of their duties. In addition, candidates must:
  • Hold a security clearance at least at the level of EU SECRET, or equivalent. In case the successful candidate is not in possession of such a clearance at the time of submitting an application, the SatCen will request it, and no appointment will be fully confirmed until the security clearance has been received by the competent national authority. In addition and during the selection procedure, candidates will need to declare any particular circumstances which could be in conflict with the performance of their duties at SatCen.
  • Be physically fit to perform their duties. Prior to the appointment the successful candidate will be medically examined to fulfil the requirement of Article 6 of the SatCen Staff Regulations;

As the SatCen is situated in an air force base outside of Madrid, with limited access by public transport to the entrance of the base and no public transport on the base itself, a driving licence is highly desirable. It is the duty of any staff member to get to the office by its own means.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Health Insurance needs to be organised by the trainee and proof of cover must be provided to the SatCen. SatCen is offering:

  • Monthly subsistence allowance: 1200 €, plus a travel allowance as applicable to SatCen staff members (2024 = 203.58 €);
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses upon starting and ending the traineeship under specific conditions;
  • Upon presentation of the proper medical justification and costs incurred, disabled trainees may receive a supplement to their allowance equal to a maximum of 50% of the amount of the allowance due to additional costs they may have to make;
  • Annual Leave: 2.5 days per month;
  • Duration: 6-month assignment (renewable once).
