Looking for a challenge?
Become a trainee in the EU's most dynamic and rapidly changing agency: Frontex
Want to gain work experience at an EU institution that has become one of the most recognisable EU agencies? Frontex is undergoing fundamental changes to provide even stronger support to Member States at the EU external borders. And you can be a part of this transformation.
In recent years we have become a key actor at the European level to address irregular migration and cross-border crime at the external borders. We are building the European Border and Coast Guard standing corps, an ambitious task that will set the path for Europe’s security for the years to come.
We have expanded at a fast rate and filled our ranks with fresh skills and ideas, making Frontex EU’s most dynamic agency. That dynamism makes us one of the most exciting European Institutions for young people seeking work experience.
If you have completed your studies and are looking to put your knowledge to work in the service of the European project, do not miss this opportunity.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Preparation of an overview of the existing EU external relations policies and actions toward the Working Arrangements (WA) and Mandate Third Countries, International Organisations and European Agencies;
- Maintaining a database of Frontex activities involving or related to Third Countries, International Organisations and European Agencies - as a background information for the work of the Agency;
- Facilitating replies to possible external and internal inquiries about the activities of Frontex with external stakeholders;
- Support the activities of technical assistance projects
- Assistance to the International and European Cooperation Unit, according to the tasks assigned;
- Familiarisation with the Frontex’s and Unit’s work.
FRONTEX
Frontex is a cornerstone of the EU’s efforts to guarantee an area of freedom, security and justice. To help safeguard Europe’s internal security, Frontex has begun conducting regular vulnerability tests in all EU Member States, and has already shared its first findings with national authorities and EU institutions. Through its return operations, the agency is also playing an increasingly central role in migration enforcement, while at the same time fundamental rights protection is being strengthened in areas ranging from operational guidance through to return monitoring.
The new Frontex is more operational than ever. The agency currently has some 1,700 officers deployed at the EU’s sea, land and air borders, assisting EU Member States in surveillance, registration, finger printing and security checks. In case of a border emergency, Frontex now has a rapid reaction pool at its disposal composed of 1,500 officers, as well as additional sea vessels, aircraft, vehicles and other equipment. Frontex officers are also involved in search and rescue operations, which have led to the saving of 33,000 lives in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean between January and November 2017 alone.
