What will you do?
Vx Digital Virology is an experienced team of data scientists that foster excellence in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and virology to conduct data-driven discoveries, enabling the research and development of modern viral vaccines. The Viral Computational Genomics team (VCG), as part of Vx Digital Virology, is bringing data science to scientists and viral vaccine projects to innovate, provide novel insights, and drive decision-making.
As a GSK intern, you will learn new skills and concepts in the field of molecular epidemiology and viral genomics and evolution by investigating and developing different methods to assess viral evolution and phylogeny. These activities will contribute to VCG’s analyses and computational pipelines, helping the team to deliver projects in data analytics. In addition to building new scientific knowledge, you will gain experience in research and development in industry, strategic objectives, and deadlines.
The day-to-day work will involve review of relevant literature, investigation of new methods for phylogenetic analysis with focus on spatiotemporal spread, running in-house or other tools to compute mutation rate and temporal signal, perform statistical analysis on of temporal signals, and to prepare presentations and reports. At the end of your internship, you will have contributed to the delivery of important analyses with impact in the development of viral vaccines.
