Overview
By joining Herbert Smith Freehills, you will become an integral part of one of the world’s leading legal practices. You will play a vital role in helping many of the biggest and most ambitious organisations to thrive in the global economy. On our vacation schemes, you won’t be watching from the side lines. You’ll hit the ground running, taking on real work for real clients. You’ll work directly with colleagues who are experts in their fields, and happy to share what they know. You’ll get to choose your two seats so your experience is tailored to you. And you’ll have a trainee buddy at every step to support you.
Details
Alongside workshops and presentations, you’ll get to explore our practice areas and join a team on a pro bono project. Plus you’ll network with other vacation scheme students, Partners, Associates and Trainees. In your first seat, you’ll get verbal feedback to take with you and work on in your second seat. You’ll also be set written pieces of work by your supervisors in each of the two seats, which will be assessed. At the end of the scheme we look at a combination of those things before making our offers for the Trainee Associate Programme.

Description of Ideal Candidate
- We only recruit trainees from our vacation schemes. This is because a vacation scheme enables you to build stronger connections with our team and hit the ground running when you start your career.
- To be eligible, you must be a graduate, or in your penultimate or final year at university. You’ll also need to be able to work for a minimum of 35 hours per week. We’re looking for consistent 2:1s throughout your degree but we’ll always take mitigating circumstances into account – please include as much detail as you’re comfortable with in the additional information box on the online application form.

- ADVICE ON ACCOMMODATION: We're able to provide you with advice on where to stay during your vacation scheme.
- TRAINEE BUDDY: You'll have two trainee buddies, one from each of the two practice groups you sit in. They are on hand to support you during the scheme.
