Overview
The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental body based at the offices of TWAS, in Trieste, Italy. OWSD was founded in 1987 and is the first international forum to unite eminent women scientists from the developing and developed worlds with the objective of strengthening their role in the development process and promoting their representation in scientific and technological leadership.

OWSD welcomes applications for internships in particular from students at education institutes in or near Trieste, Italy. In the past we have accepted students from the Institute of International Sociology in Udine and those doing a Masters in Intercultural Cooperation for Development ('Cooperazione Interculturale allo
at the Università degli Studi di Trieste.
The first task is to become familiar with OWSD history, objectives and programmes, especially the OWSD fellowship programme.
Each intern will then receive training in one or more of the following:
- inputting and analysing data using a Filemaker database.
- processing and following up applications for fellowships via email
- procedures for awarding travel funds and organising travel to international conferences
- identifying and contacting past fellowship awardees ('alumnae') via email and telephone
- placing announcements and upates on facebook, the website and other social media
- undertaking relevant internet research

The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) is an international organization founded in 1987 and based at the offices of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), in Trieste, Italy. It is a programme unit of UNESCO.
OWSD is the first international forum to unite eminent women scientists from the developing and developed worlds with the objective of strengthening their role in the development process and promoting their representation in scientific and technological leadership.
OWSD provides research training, career development and networking opportunities for women scientists throughout the developing world at different stages in their careers.
