Overview
Adalah ("Justice" in Arabic) is an independent human rights organization and legal center. Established in November 1996, it works to promote and defend the rights of Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, 1.2 million people, or 20% of the population, as well as Palestinians living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Adalah seeks to achieve equal individual and collective rights for Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel and to defend against gross human rights violations against Palestinian residents of the OPT.

Adalah hosts international students and graduates in our offices for legal, multi-media and human rights advocacy internships each year. Adalah offers a collegial work environment, challenging and varied responsibilities, and the opportunity to contribute significantly to the efforts of a groundbreaking human rights organization.
Online Fundraising Intern
Successful candidates for the position of ‘Online Fundraising Intern’ will demonstrate strong writing and editing skills and experience in the creation of web-based content. The candidate will assist in fundraising strategy, communications, and digital marketing practices. The candidate will help execute online fundraising campaigns and cultivate relations with individual donors to make funds generated via individual donations a source of sustainable and growing income for Adalah.
Legal Interns
Legal interns gain practical experience in legal research and writing, as well as specialized knowledge of the legal status of Palestinians in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Interns conduct comparative constitutional, administrative, and international human rights and humanitarian law research for Adalah's petitions to the Israeli courts, international advocacy reports, and publications. Interns should obtain grants through their law firms, law schools or other sources.
Media Interns
Multimedia interns contribute to all aspects of our media and multi-media work. Duties include: writing, editing and sending press releases about Adalah's work; maintaining lists and building contacts with international journalists; contributing to the content and design of our website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube sites; and working on videos, photo galleries, audio-slide shows, etc.
Human Rights and Advocacy Interns
Human Rights and Advocacy interns contribute to all aspects of Adalah's fundraising and advocacy work. Duties include: assisting in writing grant proposals and donor reports; conducting research and writing texts for international advocacy reports (UN/EU/US); maintaining contact databases of foreign embassies, international organizations and universities; contributing to the content of our website and a multitude of other tasks.

Description of Ideal Candidate
Online Fundraising Intern
- University graduate and one year of work experience in relevant field (fundraising, digital marketing, human rights, advocacy, journalism, writing etc);
- Excellent English copywriting skills, including the ability to boil down complex legalese into compelling copy;
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights;
- Computers: Basic knowledge of Wordpress, HTML, online advertising formats; MS Office Suite proficiency; basic knowledge of Google Analytics;
- Hands-on experience with email automation tools, particularly Mailchimp;
- Ability to manage numerous tasks while setting appropriate priorities to achieve goals;
- Must be able to multi-task and be extremely detail-oriented;
- Commitment of 6 months or more strongly preferred.
In addition, the following skills would be very helpful:
- Design knowledge (Adobe Creative Suite)
- Previous work/education experience in Israel/Palestine
- Arabic or Hebrew language skills
Legal Interns
- Minimum commitment of three months.
- Must have completed at least one year of law school in order to apply. Law school graduates and practicing lawyers preferred.
- Excellent English writing and legal research abilities.
- Computer literacy including legal database research on Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, etc.
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights.
- Previous experience in Israel/OPT strongly recommended.
- Arabic or Hebrew language skills are helpful.
- Self-motivated, team-player, able to work under pressure and multi-task.
Media Interns
- Minimum commitment of three months
- Minimum BA in journalism/multi-media journalism.
- A minimum of one year of work experience in journalism or media work.
- Excellent, native level English writing and editing skills.
- Excellent computer skills including knowledge of multimedia website design and creative uses of the internet and social media sites for advocacy purposes.
- A demonstrated commitment to human rights.
- Arabic or Hebrew language skills are very helpful.
Human Rights and Advocacy Interns
- Commitment of 6 months strongly preferred.
- Minimum BA in a relevant field.
- Minimum of one year of work experience in relevant field (fundraising, journalism, media, advocacy work, etc.).
- Excellent, native level English writing and editing skills.
- Computer skills
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights.
- Previous experience in Israel/OPT strongly recommended
- Arabic or Hebrew language skills strongly preferred.
- Highly organized, able to work under pressure and multi-task.
