Junk Kouture is a global platform to unleash young people's creative brilliance. Through a fashion competition, Junk Kouture challenges the world's emerging designers and artists to envision, create and model high end couture from everyday junk.
Details
Everything created and visible on the platform is fashioned and crafted by creatives between 13-19 years old, out of nothing but recycled materials. The nine month school programme kicks off this September – with 6 city finals taking place in 2024 before crowning the Global winner.
There are additional prizes to be won in 12 new award categories such as attendance at prestigious events, memorable experiences, bursaries and scholarships, and a monetary prize for the winning school! Is your school up for the challenge?
More than just a competition, Junk Kouture is a community, where like-minded young adults can come together in a celebration of their creativity and drive to find a sustainable future for our planet. By providing this welcoming and inspiring platform for artistic talent, passionate creatives and the future changemakers can show the world what they've got! After 10 incredible years, Junk Kouture is expanding and going global with a 10-year ambition to enrich and empower the lives of a billion young people through creativity and sustainability. Junk Kouture’s World Tour will build momentum over the next three years. Beginning in September 2024, the initial season will take place digitally in Dublin, London, New York, Paris, Milan and Abu Dhabi with entrants from each of those countries applying for their regional competition. Further digital shows in Tokyo, Aukland, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Los Angeles, Cape Town and Singapore will be added in 2025 with a transition back to a full live tour with shows being hosted in some of the most iconic venues around the world as we return to pre-covid normality.
THE BRIEF
Look around you and get creative! Everywhere you see waste, there is opportunity! Recycled materials tell stories, and also make for fabulous fashion and bring creativity to life! A design can be crafted into any style of wear- from glamour to theatrical. The only really important rule is that your deign is made from 100% recycled materials! Be brave, take chances, experiment, and push the boundaries! We vision a cleaner and more sustainable environment. Show us your dreams of the future, show us these through design!

- Creator: A young creative between the ages of 13-19, who wishes to take part in Junk Kouture.
- Educator: A teacher or mentor who works with young people aged 13-19, who are taking part in Junk Kouture.
- Fan: Has an interest in Junk Kouture or is supporting a competition entrant.
