About Malcolm Wilson
Malcolm Wilson was born in 1956 and attended Cockermouth School before joining the family business selling motor vehicle parts. Inspired by British rally driver Roger Clark, he pursued a career in motorsport from an early age and has more than 40 years of experience at World Rally Championship level.
As a driver, he won two British national titles in the late 1970s and achieved a long-held ambition by winning the British International crown in 1994.
Malcolm Wilson Motorsport Limited was founded in 1979 and changed its name to M-Sport in 1996 when the company was awarded the Ford contract for rallying as well as competition research and development.
Under Malcolm’s leadership the team enjoyed much success including winning the FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers tin 2006 and 2007. In 2017 they secured the Manufacturers’ crown for a third time, and back-to-back Driver and Co-driver Championships for Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in 2017 and 2018.
Aside from rallying, the team also enjoys success on the racing scene. Through the reputation that M-Sport holds, Malcolm was approached by Bentley Motors in 2012 to build a Bentley Continental GT3 racer for competition in the International Blancpain series.
Months of hard work paid dividends and the efforts of the team were rewarded with victory on only their second outing - at Silverstone in May 2014. As well as being an incredible achievement for a new team with a new car, this victory was also Bentley's first on British soil in over 80 years!
Since then, success on the circuit has continued and the team won the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Team Cup in 2017. Malcolm was awarded an OBE for services to motorsport in the Queen’s birthday honours list 2009.
