Overview
MSFS (Master of Science in Foreign Service) offers a limited number of partial scholarships each year to new and returning students. MSFS Scholarships are just one source of potential funding. We strongly recommend that you look into additional sources of funding at the same time as you are researching programs and admission policies.

MSFS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Merit-based awards come mainly from Graduate School of Arts and Sciences' general scholarship funds or donations from alumni and outside supporters. The funds are used to recognize merit and are not granted on the basis of financial need.
All scholarship recipients must return a signed "Obligation Statement" to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, indicating acceptance of the terms and conditions of their awards, and must be enrolled full-time (registered for 12 credits) each semester of the award. Scholarships are applied only to tuition for MSFS credits; they can complement but not replace tuition assistance from other sources. Students receiving funds donated by alumni or outside supporters may be required to send a thank you note and resume to the donor.
DUAL DEGREE STUDENTS
-
Dual degree applicants are considered for MSFS merit-based scholarships as part of the admission process. Like the admission decisions, scholarships are offered independently by each degree program. Just as the curriculum of each program changes if students decide to enroll in the dual degree, the timing and amount of scholarships may change as well. Students who are admitted with a scholarship should contact both programs to determine if/how becoming a dual degree student will change the amount of the scholarship from each program.
-
First year scholarships can be renewed in subsequent years according to the criterion listed under "Scholarship Process & Criteria," however, the amount of the scholarship will be adjusted to reflect the expected MSFS courseload (i.e. prorated), and can be applied only to tuition for MSFS courses.
SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
The special funds, established by contributions from alumni and other outside supporters, provide some of the tuition scholarships awarded to MSFS students. These scholarships are distributed to students of exceptional ability and talent based on the strength of their applications in the admissions process. Because all scholarship dollars are awarded during the admissions process, no additional application is necessary for these scholarships.
