Explore, Learn, and Grow
Join Semester at Sea as we sail to countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. You’ll experience a wide range of cultures and histories, setting sail from Amsterdam, Netherlands and exploring Morocco, Jordan, transit the Suez Canal and more before disembarking in Laem Chabang, Thailand. You’ll have this adventure all while living and learning aboard a ship you’ll call home with a community that’s designed to build friendships for life.

With guided Field Programs and plenty of opportunities for in-country travel on your own or with fellow SAS voyagers, you’ll explore your interests and deepen your understanding of the world. Bring a sense of adventure and a willingness to discover the unknown.

Course Offering Information:
- Fall 2025 courses will be listed on a rolling basis as they are approved by our academic partner, Colorado State University.
- 70-72 sections will be offered on the Fall 2025 Voyage.
- Lower-division courses are designated with 100-299 numbers; upper-division courses are 300-499 numbers.
- Each course, except for Global Studies, has an experiential Field Class in one of the ports.
Registration Information:
- All Semester at Sea students take 4 courses, including the required core course, IE 200 Global Studies, for a total full-time load of 12 credits.
- Course schedule information will be posted in March 2025.
- Course registration will open in May 2025.
- All Start at Sea students are required to take IU 172C New Student Seminar.
Voyage Curriculum - The Perfect Mix of Classroom and Field Education
Semester at Sea’s global comparative study abroad program is enhanced by a robust academic program led by a team of academic experts from renowned institutions around the world. During the 100+ day voyage, students can earn 12-15 credits from Colorado State University, while taking major or elective courses, drawn for 20-25 fields of study. Each class also includes academically required Field Work courses, which are developed by faculty and allow for experiential in-country learning throughout the voyage.
Semester at Sea Field Programs
When Semester at Sea arrives in each country, voyagers will either explore via required Field Work for their classes (for voyagers enrolled in academic courses), participate in optional Semester at Sea-designed Field Programs, or they can plan their own travel experiences.

- Traditional Undergraduate
- Students must be enrolled full-time in a degree-granting program at an accredited 2- or 4-year college/university.
- International Students
- We welcome students currently enrolled as full-time students at a university outside of the United States
- Gap Year Students
- Open to recent high school graduates, who have not had full-time undergraduate enrollment. GPA Req. 3.25 cumulative
- Post Graduate Students
- Post-baccalaureate students interested in exploring after earning their undergraduate degree.

Cost/funding for participants
60% of Voyagers Receive Some Form of Financial Aid
Even students who do not qualify for standard forms of financial aid (such as Pell Grants) on their home campuses may be eligible for scholarships through the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) and Semester at Sea. Applicants are strongly encouraged to file the FAFSA and submit the Student Aid Report to the ISE financial aid office along with tax returns from the most recent tax year and any supplemental information that might be helpful in our review. International students are also welcome to apply for any ISE scholarships. We ask that you submit a statement of your parents’ income, with an English translation and conversion to U.S. dollars, in lieu of the FAFSA and tax forms.
