Students For Liberty’s Campus Coordinator Program

This grassroots program seeks out strong student leaders to spread the ideas of a free society by starting new pro-liberty student groups, organizing events to promote the ideas of liberty, providing resources to student groups, and identifying and mentoring other pro-liberty students. The CC Program has gone on to inspire similar programs around the globe, in places like Latin America, Europe, Africa, and South Asia. Students in the CC Program have the unique opportunity to work to advance liberty and develop their skills with like-minded individuals from around the world as we work together to achieve a freer future for everyone.

HISTORY

The Campus Coordinator Program began in 2010 with a class of 24 students from across the United States. In 2011 the program more than doubled to 58 students and included three leaders from Canada and one from Venezuela. The Campus Coordinators continued to play a vital role in SFL’s leadership by directing 5 of the 13 SFL Regional Conferences, a responsibility previously reserved for members of the Executive Board. In 2012, Students For Liberty accepted 90 Campus Coordinators from 27 states and Canada. The Campus Coordinators each started to build Forums for Freedom in their regions: small, informal meetings of local student leaders from various pro-liberty student groups who come together to discuss ways to improve and coordinate their efforts. They also played a crucial role in the overall success of all 15 fall regional conferences, as well as the groundbreaking International Students For Liberty Conference with over 1,400 attendees. Today, over 120 Campus Coordinators are working across North America to advance the ideas of liberty. Our CCs have made progress this year toward putting on 25 Regional conferences, changing their campuses unconstitutional speech codes, and sharing the ideas of liberty with students in their areas.

About The Program

The SFL Campus Coordinator Program seeks to build the student movement for liberty in North America by identifying, training, and supporting the strongest student leaders of liberty on college campuses. If you are not a student in North America, check out some of the other coordinator programs that SFL runs in our other regions.

All students selected for entry to the Campus Coordinator summer training program undergo in-depth online training with readings and seminars on the philosophy of liberty and campus organizing techniques. This training will educate incoming Campus Coordinators on the best practices SFL has developed over the years to effectively create a student movement for liberty. With our great training, you will learn how to take your activism to the next level, and make a difference on your college campus!

Those who complete online training will be invited to attend an in-person retreat where they will be welcomed into the SFL family. The retreat brings together incoming and returning Campus Coordinators, Executive Board members, and staff for a three day intensive retreat featuring in-person training and bonding.

When the school year starts, CCs will begin working with student groups at their own schools and at nearby campuses, run events that educate others on the meaning of liberty, and seek to identify other pro-liberty students in their areas. Campus Coordinators will work closely with other leaders to build the student movement for liberty by creating long-lasting, meaningful mechanisms to support pro-liberty students. Being a campus coordinator allows for you to make a serious impact on your campus promoting liberty, all while acquiring and developing important professional skills.
