Turnaround 2.0: Redefining Efficiency on the Ground

The airline industry operates in a dynamic environment where operational efficiency directly impacts profitability, customer satisfaction, and overall competitiveness.

Among various operational processes, aircraft turnaround is a critical component that significantly influences on-time performance, cost management, and safety standards.

For decades, the traditional turnaround process has relied on manual coordination, by different stakeholders, including ground handlers, maintenance teams, and airport operators. This approach is prone to delays, inefficiencies, and human errors. Given the complexity of turnaround operations, the process is heavily influenced by external variables such as weather conditions, air traffic constraints, regulatory requirements, and unexpected technical or staffing issues.

The rise of digital transformation and data-driven decision-making presents an opportunity to challenge how turnaround management is performed.  It would allow enhanced decision-making through data insights, minimize turnaround time, improve coordination across different stakeholders, remain competitive advantage and future-proof the operations of our five airlines.

The challenge lies in the fact that data is fragmented, there are a lot of external dependencies which make it hard to predict possible delays. Additionally, the trade-off between safety and efficiency is tough to balance but key.

About the internship

By conducting a comprehensive market analysis or developing a case study, you can recommend a new approach that seamlessly integrates safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while addressing the complexities of turnaround operations.

This initiative not only provides you with hands-on experience in solving real-world challenges but also aligns with the broader strategic goals of enhancing operational excellence and ensuring a sustainable, future-ready airline business.
