Overview

The TIGP is a unique all-English Ph.D. program supported by Academia Sinica (www.sinica.edu.tw), the most prestigious research institution in Taiwan. In collaboration with top-ranking local research universities, the TIGP would like to invite outstanding young scholars from around the globe to experience Taiwan’s top-notch scientific research facilities and to participate in build an intellectual network of people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. This 2 month program takes place between May and August 2025.

Launched in 2009, the TIGP-IIP (https://tigpsip.apps.sinica.edu.tw/index.php) is an intensive pre-doctoral research training program that prepares its participating interns with the necessary knowledge and skills for future research or career development through rigorous hands-on training.

This program typically takes place during July and August. However the dates can be changed by the host PI upon request. Ideally, the qualified intern will be hosted by the PI of his or her choice. At the end of the internship, interns are required to submit a report and/or give a presentation about their research projects. Upon completion of each intern’s project, an evaluation report will be filed by the host scientist, which may later serve as a supportive document towards application for admission to TIGP.

Internship Duration: 2 months

  • 1st cohort: 1st May - 30th Jun.
  • 2nd cohort: 1st Jun. - 31st Jul. 
  • 3rd cohort: 1st Jul. - 31st Aug.

Program Highlights

  • Orientation—Introduction to Academia Sinica and Taiwan International Graduate Program
  • Visits to TIGP partner institutions and sightseeing/field trips
  • Basic or fundamental Chinese language classes: free, classes can be waived if the intern has basic knowledge of Mandarin/Chinese or upon request by the mentor.
  • Internship Report/Poster Presentation
  • Certificate awarding ceremony

General Responsibilities of the Interns:

  1. Meet your mentor within 3 days after arriving Taiwan.

  2. Work in the assigned lab with the host mentor for 2 months.

  3. Work on the days and times agreed upon with host mentor/ supervisor. If interns did not show up at lab the times agreed with host mentor, TIGP office has right to deduct your stipend.

  4. Notify your host mentor of planned absences. If interns need to take a sick leave, they are required to inform your mentor or lab supervisor before the internship take place.

  5. Follow the policies, rules, and regulations of TIGP office and host mentor’s lab.

  6. Complete assignments, tasks, projects and the final poster that host mentor assigned to the intern.

  7. Without the host mentor’s permission, the researches/ projects/ data will be not used by the intern in the future.

  3. Individuals holding a B.S. or Master's degree

Note: The followings are not eligible for the TIIP program:

  • Students pursuing a Ph.D. degree program.
  • Students/ Individuals who have attended the TIIP program before.
  • The current employees or research assistants at Academia Sinica.

Cost/funding for participants

Financial support:

  • NTD 30,000/month stipend (before tax) and half of the cheapest route round-trip airfare of an economy class from the intern's hometown to Taipei.

    Note: If the interns are from the same location in the same batch, the reimbursement will be based on the lowest price (Max. NTD 15,000).
  • On-campus accommodation will be arranged with affordable price.
