The GOvernance & Administration of Leisure and Sports International Master (GOALS) is a joint Master programme organised by five leading European universities in the field of sports management. This unique Master programme is dedicated to meet students' needs as future professionals in several settings within the fields of sport, management and active leisure. Sport's growing economic, political and social significance and internationalisation of Sports organisations create a corresponding need for professionally well-trained sports managers.

About GOALS

GOALS (GOvernance and Administration of Leisure and sports)" is a two-year programme entirely taught in English (120 ECTS) and jointly operated by the University of Lille (France), the University of Lisbon (Portugal), Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), Nicolaus Copernicus University (Poland), and the International University of Health, Exercise & Sports - LUNEX (Luxembourg).

This consortium joined forces to create an innovative study programme and provide a balanced integration of theory, practical experience, empirical research and policy analysis.

GOALS Master program offers students many opportunities to pursue their academic and professional objectives. Upon completion of this joint degree, students are prepared for a range of careers in sport management. They will be employed in sport organisations also they will have the necessary skills and competences to act as self-employed on individual basis as a partner, consultant and expert.

The Master GOALS and the digital transformation

There is no doubt that technology has been changing businesses in all sectors, fundamentally transforming the customer experience and the internal running of organisations. The sports industry is undergoing a major shift in the way it operates, and digital technologies are opening up significant opportunities for growth. However, to fully capitalise on these opportunities, sports organisations are likely to need a digital makeover.

Sports industry needs to integrate digital into all business aspects, transforming people, processes and technology. Committing to the digital transformation journey requires a deep understanding of current capabilities, as well as a vision for the future that will determine how capabilities, processes, organisational structure and technology will need to change.

As sports organisations become more familiar with life as digital businesses, they will not only get closer to their supporters, but may also find it easier to create innovative and personalised experiences that will both expand and strengthen their customer base.

Academic requirements

Candidates must hold a Higher Education (HE) undergraduate degree (e.g., Bachelor, Licence, 180ECTS) or a recognised equivalent level of learning in accordance to the GOALS Master programme.

The expected scientific background is the following: Sport management (sport sociology, sport marketing, sport communication, sport finances, sport economics, sport event management) or Management/business administration (sociology, marketing, communication, finances, economics, event management) or Sport studies (physical education, sport coaching, fitness, sport and wellness).

Students enrolled in their last year of undergraduate degree can provide an official certificate of registration produced by their HE institution. If selected, they must provide their official degree or certificate of Bachelor degree achievement by the 30th of August, or their enrolment to the programme will be canceled.

Language proficiency

The whole GOALS programme is taught in English and English proficiency is therefore a basic requirement. All non-English native speakers must attest a valid B2 English level (CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference) or equivalent:

  • IELTS 6.0 to 6.5
  • TOEFL iBT 88
  • Cambridge First or Advanced
  • 2 years full-time studies minimum in English (certificate from the previous University)

Cost/funding for participants

EMJM scholarships

By applying to the GOALS Master programme, you can apply for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship, by mentioning your choice while filling in the application form. The EMJM scholarship amounts to 1400€ per month, for a total duration of 24 months. It includes a waiver for participation fees and covers all living costs of the students (travel, accommodation, visa, etc.).

Students from all over the world are eligible for EMJM scholarships under some conditions:

  • the applicant has never been beneficiary from a EMJM scholarship nor a Erasmus Mundus Master Course / Joint Doctorate scholarship
  • the applicant undertakes to waive any other EMJM scholarship for the duration of the GOALS course
  • no more than three nationals from the same country can be awarded a EMJM scholarship
  • the financial support shall be repaid by the scholarship holder in case of fraud or false declaration.
