Bold action must be taken across society to rapidly decarbonise cities if we are to reach the global target of reducing global emissions by 43 per cent by 2030 as an interim step to net zero by 2050.
The Liveability Challenge is back and on the hunt for ground-breaking innovations across the world that enables large-scale decarbonisation, climate adaptation and resilience, as well as efficient and circular food systems.

The Liveability Challenge is a global platform that hunts for and accelerates the launch of innovative solutions to urban challenges of the 21st century in cities in the tropics. Offering Asia's biggest prize for sustainability solutions, and the only platform targeting ideas for cities in the world's tropical belt, The Liveability Challenge is a key highlight in Singapore's calendar of sustainability events.

From a record-breaking 1000 entries from more than 100 countries, the 2024 battle to win S$2.5 million in funding saw innovations such as sustainable aviation fuel and cricket-derived protein making the shortlist for the first time.

THE CHALLENGE STATEMENT
The eighth edition of The Liveability Challenge features two main themes:
1. DECARBONISATION
- We are looking for disruptive deep-tech solutions that provide scalable and impactful solutions to reduce carbon emissions across diverse industries.
- Examples of such solutions include, but not limited to: waste-to-resource, renewable energy, and energy efficiency.
- The winner of this track will receive S$1 million in grant funding.
2. COOL EARTH
- We are seeking groundbreaking innovations that specifically address the challenges posed by climate-induced extreme weather conditions.
- Examples of such solutions include, but not limited to: heat mitigation, nature-based solutions.
- The winner of this track will receive S$1 million in grant funding.

Candidates should be from:
Description of Ideal Candidate
You are eligible if you are:
- 18 years or over.
- Not an employee of Temasek Foundation or Eco-Business
- Not a close relative or connected otherwise with the organisation or the judging of the competition
All solutions submitted to The Liveability Challenge must fulfil the following criteria to be considered:
- Must have proof of concept
- At least Technology Readiness Level 6
- Must be applicable to Singapore and urban environments in the tropics

What are the benefits to participanting in The Liveability Challenge?
The teams with the most ground-breaking solutions will be mentored to refine their pitches and proposals, through an intensive month of coaching by leading experts. They will get to pitch their solutions at The Liveability Challenge Grand Finale, for a chance to win up to S$2 million in funding and other exclusive opportunities.
