Overview
Unite Lebanon Youth Project (ULYP) is a nonprofit organization (NGO#134) established in 2010 to propel a paradigm shift in Lebanon from a nation that is divided along religious, political, socio-economic, and ethnic lines to one where people can co-exist, unite, and work together for a better future. ULYP does this through creating educational opportunities and giving equal access to quality educational programs to children, youth, and women in the marginalized communities. ULYP’s programs raise general awareness on mutual respect, tolerance, and acceptance of the other to create a dialogue of peace.
Details
ULYP’s work is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to fulfill his or her inherent potential, and to have a voice in the process of getting there. This is especially true in the context of refugees, who now make up over one quarter of Lebanon’s population. To ULYP, a marginalized person and/or a refugee is not synonymous with someone who lacks potential they just lack the means of reaching it.
OUR MISSION
To empower the marginalized children, youth, and women living in Lebanon TODAY with the skills and knowledge they need to change and become active agents of change for a better tomorrow, without any discrimination.
OUR VISION
A united Lebanon where everyone has equal access to success and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Education. Hope. Change. These are the three words that define our work at ULYP. Through education hope is rekindled. With this hope, the children, youth, and women work harder to change and become agents of change.
We facilitate this change though different strategies and methodologies. ULYP’s programs are based on educational services in many areas including the academics, languages, arts, sports, leadership, team building, critical thinking, and more that are leveraged to achieve change at two levels: to empower children, youth, and women with new skills and knowledge, and to create a more united Lebanon.
ULYP believes in the importance of sustaining the impact of our programs, and therefore engages the teachers and parents of our students. Teachers who work with program participants in their own schools and communities attend and observe ULYP programs and engage in workshops to expand their understanding of age-specific education theory and best practices. Parents of participants come together for sessions to enhance their parenting skills through a better understanding of the congitive, social and emotional development of children and youth. ULYP's impact is therefore further disseminated as these adults spread their knowledge and are better prepared to support all the young people in their care, now and in the future.
ULYP’s programs take place on a campus 17km south of Beirut in Dibbiyeh. This campus was donated by the Nimer family in memory of the late Rifaat Nimer, an esteemed role model and caring philanthropist. The campus consists of two preschool rooms, three studios (art, music and IT), basketball court, soccer field, villa including capacity for hosting overnight guests, swimming pool and an active farm. We are constantly improving our campus. Our basketball court and soccer fields are covered, allowing our children, youth, and women to use it year-round, rain or shine.
