Overview
Yale Young Global Scholars is an unparalleled academic and leadership program at Yale University, founded on the tenets of liberal arts, renowned for its diverse and inclusive community, and committed to increasing education access. Yale Young Global Scholars empowers the next generation of leaders by building a global community and designing interdisciplinary programs that foster intellectual curiosity, deepen understanding and inspire creative action across all borders.
Details
Yale Young Global Scholars emphasizes an open, exploratory, and collaborative approach to learning. Our program is designed to allow students to experience learning in a variety of different university contexts, from large lectures to small seminars, and even the spontaneous learning that happens in dining halls and around campus.
- With no grades or course credit, YYGS encourages students to approach all aspects of the program creatively with the understanding that they set their own limits. Students receive an electronic certificate of completion at the end of the session.
- The diverse and inclusive community at YYGS enhances learning by inviting students to analyze issues from multiple perspectives. Living and learning alongside peers from around the world allows students to broaden their own world views by learning about countries and cultures they have never encountered before.
- Exploring Yale: participants live on campus, explore surrounding areas and take advantage of opportunities that the Yale community offers.
Curriculum
The curriculum ties together all YYGS sessions and is the foundation of the academic program. Students work with a different group of peers and learning contexts, which allows for a wide range of peer-to-peer interaction. These learning contexts include:
- Lectures Hear from accomplished Yale faculty and leading practitioners about the most important and relevant topics in their fields.
- Breakout Sessions Dig deeper into lecture content by sharing knowledge, posing questions, and brainstorming real-world implications with a small group of peers.
- Seminars Pursue your passion or find a new one through the 1000+ unique and exciting seminars offered each summer.
- Capstone Project Gain exposure to a particular area of interest through a session-long collaborative research project under the mentorship of YYGS instructional staff.
- Family Time Develop strong bonds with peers from around the world through identity reflection, courageous conversations, active listening, and fun social activities.
- Simulation Address real-world issues by participating in an open-ended, collaborative, problem-solving activity with likeminded peers.
- Impact Panel Learn from inspiring changemakers about innovative approaches to meaningful social impact work throughout the world.

Cost/funding for participants
Need-based financial aid
For students with demonstrated financial need, we strive to ensure that cost of attendance will not prevent anyone from anywhere in the world from participating in YYGS.
We help students get ready for the college application process by understanding tuition “sticker price,” expected family contribution (EFC), and how to apply for financial aid.
YYGS is proud to be one of the only pre-college programs in the world that provides need-based financial aid equally to both domestic and international students, which is offered as a tuition discount (up to 100% of tuition). Students with demonstrated financial need are encouraged to apply for YYGS need-based financial aid.
We consider demonstrated financial need separately from applicant eligibility. Therefore students are encouraged to provide us with as much information as possible when applying for aid. Please know that the information you provide will be kept confidential.
Though we cannot meet all requests for financial aid, we strive to meet as many requests as we can. In 2024, of all admitted students who applied for financial aid, we met 99% of their requests in full, and YYGS distributed over $3 Million USD in need-based financial aid equally to domestic and international students.
Scholarships
Thanks to generous donors, YYGS is able to offer a limited number of Scholarships, which are Need-Based Financial Aid packages that cover full tuition and travel.
Please note that the majority of students who apply for need-based financial aid receive significant tuition discounts and then fundraise to cover any additional costs (including all travel costs), as only a limited number of scholarships are available each year.
In order to be considered for one of these scholarships (below), you MUST have completed the entire online YYGS Application, including the Need-Based Financial Aid portion, by January 10, 2025.
As part of reviewing your financial aid request, YYGS staff will automatically review whether or not you meet any of our scholarships’ eligibility requirements, and contact you when decisions are released by mid-March (learn more about Early Action deadlines).
